Pay What You Want Spending Mindset

I noticed a lot of organizations nowadays in support of charities are offering people a “Pay what you want” approach when it comes to various goods and services. You could get things like an internet based service for as little as say one dollar or even commercial games for a few cents each. Of course, the hope is people will actually give more since it is for charity. Generally speaking, this can be a great way to save money. Would you be inclined to pay the bare minimum though despite the cause?

For me I tend to go with whatever the recommended price is if the product or service is something that I am interested in. Usually what I find anyways is that the offers through these methods are either pretty old products or the service makes me wonder if it won’ shutdown in a few months as I wonder how it can self-sustain with people paying like on dollar for it.

The biggest reason though is that I honestly don’t really research much into the charities that these offers are supporting usually. In that sense it’s almost like going to any mall where people ask for donations and you give them a few dollars out of the goodness of your heart. It just gives me a little incentive to actually spend if I didn’t intend to before. Does this way seem too tacky to save money to you?
