Today I had to send out a package where I wasn’t sure if I would make it before the store closed. Fortunately, I did arrive in time as the store was closing up in about fifteen minutes. While waiting the store was closing up eventually as workers locked the door to ensure that people will stop entering and finish serving all the customers that are currently inside.
There was this one customer that kept trying to get in and another customer actually opened the door for them when they shouldn’t have. So as she went in to drop off her delivery the worker told her that business hours are closed. The customer tried to make all kinds of excuses such as they didn’t know what time the place closed and alleged there were no signs outside. There was though right at the door.
Despite this, they decided to just accept the package. The customer gave them the package, turned to leave and you could hear her scoff at them. They heard this and so they told her to take her package back as they didn’t want her business. She took it back and then threatened to report the company.
I was thinking, people often say that the customer is always right. Although, I think in these cases it can be right to not accept their business as well if they are being condescending towards the staff. From what I observed too this business was a small business owner running a franchise of the delivery company. So it made sense why the person was more inclined to reject a rude customer.
Having workers burnout due deliberate abuse from customers can actually end up costing you more you if you think about it where you can’t keep workers as a result.
