How Much You Spend Versus How Much You Are Saving

Recently I was given one of those online coupons where if I spent $125 at a store I could save $50 on that purchase. That’s a pretty good deal if you buy items that usually wouldn’t go on sale such as certain hardware products. Since I didn’t need to buy anything though, it made me think how buying something just solely on the savings is a good way to spend beyond your means to the point where you will be wondering where all the money went.

Like here, since I didn’t need to buy anything this is essentially a $75 purchase that is coming straight out of the account. Kind of puts a different perspective on the matter when you think of it like that. I think that is an important mindset to have whenever you are shopping as it helps you to stay focus in working with the budget that you have designed for yourself. As well, it makes you less susceptible to sale signs.

Always think about the type of impact it will have on your bank account at the end of the day. If anything, just give the coupon away to someone who actually needs to buy something. That will stop you from spending money on something you wouldn’t have and at the same time you are helping others.
