More Final Sales Procedures to Prevent Returns

Today I had to go to a computer store to buy a USB hub as I need to connect a bunch of external devices to help finish a year end project. As I chose an item to purchase and brought it to the counter the first remark the employee had was that the item I was buying was a final sale item with no returns possible if I open the box. That was fine with me, but it made me think how this is actually more common with smaller stores.

For large stores they can often get away with large amounts of returns which they resell as an open boxed item as an example. But for smaller stores who don’t do as much sales volume it can just be a huge drain in resources to try and resell it. One funny thought I had was that there was no mention of a warranty in the event the product is actually defective. That is usually the concern one would have with final sales procedures as if you are buying it from someone through a classified ad.

Do you tend to be more understanding though if a smaller business has these kinds of policies versus a larger one as an example? I personally tend to be a little more lenient on smaller stores in these cases.
