Today there appeared to be multiple large sites that went down and the culprit appeared to be related to Amazon Web Services as there was an outage. While you would expect its services such as Prime Video to go down, a lot of companies actually use their services including Disney Plus. It is estimated that almost 30% of the Internet is actually hosted through AWS. Think of all the products that have went offline as well such as its Alexa and Ring products.
That’s one reason why I personally don’t like products that insist you always need to be connected online in order to use the product. Just imagine if you were as large of a company as Disney or apps such as Tinder that use the service. You must be potentially losing thousands every minute the service is down.
As the customer I would imagine that they would be fully reliant on the service provider to have a backup and contingency in case something goes wrong. It’s always crazy to think about business wise as well on how one company controls so much of the operations that we rely on to get what we need for the day too huh? Would that alone convince you as a business to try and spread out your spending in order to promote alternatives?
