Made In China Products

Today I was helping a family member to choose a TV and before we went to the store I did some research ahead of time to see which brand and model would be most ideal for them based on their usage. So when we went to the store, I pretty much knew which ones to look at to compare. Now for them it was mostly about price as like with most people if you are not too sure about something you can’t help but to base your purchases on the price.

The funny thing was one of the TV’s I was comparing for them actually seemed very good based on the reviews I read and feature and price wise it looked like a great choice. It was substantially cheaper than the others as well. They seemed pretty excited about it and then a comment came up on whether or not the TV was made in China. It was in fact made in China which kind of made them think if they should spend some extra money in buying a product that was built elsewhere.

I guess that is a pretty common mentality that a lot of people have when it comes to buying products. It’s kind of interesting I think as when it comes to saving money and trying to get the best value, is it better to put the priority on what you are getting feature wise that possibly has a more likely hood of lasting longer or do you get something with a lot of features that costs way less with an increased possibly of it wearing down faster? Like with this example, the TV was comparable to the others, but price wise you could almost buy two of them if you were to pay the price for the other ones.

It’s no secret that a lot of the cheaper products that we see are made from China due to things such as the labor costs. I think in terms of where the product comes from, the only real type of things that I pay attention to in regards to that is when it comes to food and groceries or if you are dealing with something that requires local support. Sides that, I guess like a lot of people I can’t help but to prefer to buy something that is made locally if it made sense.
