Lucky Charms Food Poisoning Claims And Consumer Confidence

I was reading a lot of notices recently on how people eating the cereal Lucky Charms have claimed to get sick shortly after consuming the product. The symptoms seem to range from items such as nausea, diarrhea, or vomiting. There have been so many complaints that the FDA in the US has been investigating the matter and even here in Canada health officials are on alert.

This is a common product that can still be found on shelves everywhere which made me wonder from a business point of view how bad does the situation have to be to make everyone avoid the product? For example, some people reading one bad review on a website can often cause them to not buy a product. In this case though, people seem to be buying the product still. The company has even been addressing concerns on its social media accounts.

Is it because for products like these most would simply wait for officials to force a recall as an example? Or is a cereal item just considered as something too small to worry about? I suppose ultimately it comes down to who is telling you about the risk factors. Like here, if all doctors said there were a lot of cases thus far that would probably get a lot of people to stop versus comments online.
