Losing Sale Over Fee Shipping Thresholds

I was in the market for a nee pair of shoes and one store appeared to be selling some on sale that I liked. However, they had a standard site fee where if the total sale wasn’t at least $99.99 then you would have to pay about $10 for shipping. That doesn’t sit right when the shoe is say $99.95 where paying $10 for that rubs most people the wrong way where if they can’t find a cheap filler they then just leave. Fortunately, in this case though they had a free shipping coupon and so I ended up buying the item.

To think though as a company like with that example how you lost a sale over a 5 cent free shipping threshold. Granted it’s hard not to just have a standardized system for an online store, but it makes you wonder if businesses ever think about that. I honestly feel in these cases even a membership fee of sort for free shipping would be better as it would encourage people to shop more too as I would imagine Amazon has done well with stuff like that. Although they do offer more than just the shipping.

If anything, I am always surprised every large chain store doesn’t have a store pickup option in these cases as many just ship the item from the warehouse to the stores during its regular weekly shipment drops. At least give people the option than losing a sale over a few cents.
