Today I was told about some site that posted pictures of strange and awkward people who shop at Walmart that was apparently getting a lot of attention. After researching a little, I found the site which is at http://peopleofwalmart.com/.
Maybe it’s just me, but I personally didn’t find the material entertaining or even extremely shocking. I was then reading how this site got attention from major news outlets too such as CNN. That just made me think, if this was just say a site about “Strange shoppers†in a general sense it probably wouldn’t get the same attention. But the fact that they specifically target “Walmart†it makes people turn heads.
That should make you think where if you are just starting out in some way where you are trying to build an audience. Targeting a specific recognizable niche/brand can give you that extra boost as oppose to being so general. Kind of reminds me of that fast food movie where a guy was specifically documenting his health from continuously eating McDonald food. I bet if it wasn’t specifically tied to Mcdonalds but rather fast food in general it wouldn’t have gotten as much attention either initially.
Of course, you have to be careful too in how you use it as to not confuse people that you are affiliated with the company/organization in some way.
