Learning From Too Many Different Styles And Philosophies

When it comes to learning a skill or molding a career path to follow everyone has a different approach where one could consider their technique the best while another thinks it’s horrible. That got me to think today as there were two people discussing about martial arts training and the best way to go. One person preferred to go slow and easy in order to make sure the students will learn and remember the techniques. The other person was emphasizing how you need to add drills where they try to do various forms as fast as possible multiple times as that will force you to memorize the steps faster to the point where you won’t need to think. Then the other argument to that was the person wouldn’t be focused on actually doing I right.

It’s a classic example of too many chefs in the kitchen as they say where both techniques can probably work. But imagine training with these people where one person would be essentially getting you to unlearn what the other guy told you as they feel their way is better. It is probably better to just focus on one direction I the beginning so that you at least build yourself to the point where you are adequate enough to understand the basic foundations and what works for you.

Otherwise, it is kind of like learning a language where instead of say focusing primarily on one language first as you grow up you instead are constantly spoken to in virtually every language you can imagine. I don’t think you would be able to learn very well in that environment.
