Kids Wanting Fake Products

This was odd to me as recently I was asked if I could buy someone a product online which looked to be Pokémon trading cards as apparently a child wants it as a birthday present. The child specifically told the person where to get it too which means they saw the listing. When I looked at it, the item was not a genuine product which explains why it was so cheap compared to the real thing. However, apparently the child still wanted it.

My assumption was he just wanted these cards to play with his friends versus actually collecting them as an example. It is kind of interesting that the child already knew that it wasn’t real though as even adults don’t check many times when items are way cheaper than normal. Although, with that thought many adults buy fake items just so they can say they have it to fit in many times. Designer bags come to mind.

It almost makes me wonder if you should teach the child not to get the fake item as technically even here he is not playing the game properly using a fake deck against others. Instead, maybe it’s a good opportunity to teach them that they need to save up to get that item they desire to teach some delay gratification which is important for financial literacy I say.
