Just Asking For The Retention Deal or Not

A lot of times in order to get the customer loyalty plans from your service provider you often have to phone in to request a for abetter plan due to situations such as how a competitor may be offering a better deal. Companies would often transfer you to the loyalty department where hopefully from there they will give you the best rates possible. Sometimes you have to literally ask them to process a cancellation where a few days after someone would then attempt to give you the better plans so that you stay.

What is interesting though is usually the loyalty departments would try their best not to give you the best deal right away. Why give more if they can make you happy with something less right? That’s why I find it interesting for people who contact these departments and immediately tell them which loyalty plan they would like to receive as they know some people have been given those offers.

Not surprisingly, for many people it works and it cuts the negotiation time. At the same time, some agents seem to purposely try and find ways not to give people the deal still. It’s an interesting technique though as many times agents think the customer has no ideas of the retention plans that are available. I remember the last time I got a loyalty plan the person said the deal was just for me even though I knew that wasn’t the case.
