Today I was reading how a person decided to sell off his business as after more than a decade he simply can’t take the barrage of harassing messages that he gets from random strangers. Especially when they start attacking his family it just infuriates him knowing that there is not much he can do other than to simply take it or ignore it. Because of the harassment he decided it was time to leave the business.
That’s unfortunate as he looked like he was a leader in the industry as a lot of people used his work to further their own business. Is this something you ever actively plan for where when you reach a certain status you are likely to get say people who are obsessed in trying to take you down? I know many say they can handle it but when time comes it is often too much for people. There is a difference in dealing with say one jerk at a place of work versus one million people talking negative to you at once as an example.
I don’t know if you can ever truly train yourself for such a scenario to the point where you won’t just give up a successful business that you worked tirelessly to create. But in general, if you receive more support within your immediate circle of say friends and family than that can be an easy way to deflect the intentional negativity put towards you.
