Iphone Trademark Name Conflicts In Canada

So the news about Apple’s new iPhone product must be everywhere by now. While reading the news, I started to read reports on how apparently they are having problems in the US registering “iPhone” as a trademark as it has been registered by Cisco. That got me interested to look at the trademark database here in Canada and it looks like Apple’s luck isn’t getting any better here. A company named Comwave based in Toronto has actually registered that trademark already as well. I took some screenshots of the information you can see here:

This looks like there have been at least three parties that have been interested in the iPhone name.

Here is the information about Comwave registering for the name.

Finally, this looks like Apple being denied.

I guess the name is a little too broad as there seems to be a pile of other companies using the iPhone name as well. This sure brings up an interesting business note too where I was told before on how if you just register a trademark within your own country it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be protected in other countries as well. So, you should thoroughly research your options when it comes to registering one.
