When it comes to copyright for your business it can be an important way to protect your work in order to keep your competitive advantage while remaining profitable for the time you have invested in creating it. Creative work such as art and video are very important where if people can just freely re-use your work and make money out of it that is a one way trip to bankruptcy. But this was interesting as apparently the news channel CNN was warning people not to use any of their footage from a US election debate where it seems like anyone who even posts a clip about it to comment on can have their account banned I guess you could say for copyright infringement.
That got a lot of lawyers and experts to say how that is not legal as there is a law of fair use where people could use it for say their own news reporting and commentary. That actually makes me think how many times there are businesses that threaten people in these ways where it sounds scary but in reality they actually have no case. It’s just that most average people wouldn’t even wan to get close to trying to challenge it for fear of having to go through the court system as an example.
On the flip side, I suppose it does help large companies control say 90 percent of the people in these ways. Is it a good idea though where like here eventually everyone will find out it’s not legally enforceable in those ways? I would imagine that would hurt the organizations reputation after.
