Inserting Cultural Ideology In Business Decisions

People often tell others to keep their politics away from business dealings as it never usually turns out good. But how about one’s personal beliefs and using it as a way to discourage the use of various tools and resources? I was seeing how a person was recommending the use of AI in order to do work and research with any of the popular platforms nowadays. It only makes sense for most people to use something like AI for repetitive tasks. But that resulted in a person expressing how various AI companies are bad for the environment due to the amount of power it consumes to stay operational. So not only do they refuse to use it themselves, but they are discouraging others too with that belief.

Conversations definitely turned heated afterwards as it derailed into a technical debate if that was true. But it makes you wonder in these circumstances if one’s belief should be treated the same as politics. Because thinking of it in other ways, imagine going out and dining with some people where one person is a vegan. Is It appropriate for them to then tell everyone else how they think eating meat is barbaric and bad for the environment? I think most people would say it’s best to not insert your belief on others.

It’s more interesting in this sense. Would you actually ignore what clearly will be a tool that most people use to the point where your business will likely get left behind if you don’t adapt with the tech? Almost reminds me of how some people felt e-mails were too prone to security issue and so they insisted in staying with snail mail and fax machines. It is a choice. But in general with these circumstances, it’s not wise to bring it up during say work as there is a time and a place for these conversations.
