People often joke that when someone buys a ton of lottery tickets in hopes of winning a million dollar easily one would have probably spent that much in a lifetime in general. While that is obviously an over exaggeration that’s what surprised me when I saw this video of apparently a person who did spend a million dollars in lottery tickets.
This was kind of a crazy story too as apparently the person ran a store and had his own lottery ticket terminal. Combine that with his addiction of gambling and you have a pretty bad combination there. He would buy stacks of scratch and win tickets while also at times buying tens of thousands of dollars in lottery tickets. The odd thing is in many ways a lot of the tickets he bought were never scratch or used.
This kind of made me think how when it comes to spending or saving money developing a habit can be key. Like here for someone to buy all that and not actually check if he won means in many ways he was doing it out of a habit of sort. Afterward apparently he started to do other things to stop the bad gambling habit. Would the idea of knowing that just saving your money in this case could have gotten you a million dollars too in a guaranteed way stop you from gambling thousands of dollars away?
