Holidays And Long Weekends As A Regular Business Day

If you are an employee working for a company then you would usually view long weekends as a day off as an example and if you are required to work then you can expect to get paid more. However, usually as a business owner you need to keep working during these times. Especially for restaurants, public holidays are usually very profitable. Even for myself I usually treat public holidays as a regular working day for the most part. It might be slower in certain industries, but I still try to be productive during the day versus say sleeping and watching TV all day.

Honestly, the only people I have ever met that ran their own business and literally took the whole day off always as if they were an employee often had business that were struggling. You would be surprised where when they complain business is doing bad and people ask why they close during those holidays they then respond as if again they are a regular employee. For example, implying no one should really work on a public holiday.

It almost reminds me on how there are business owners that insist they can only work eight hours a day as anything more they expect to earn more. Again, like a standard employee. If you work for yourself you really need to get rid of that employee mindset in my opinion. If you want to work literally less, then you need to first establish a way to sustain operations even when you are not there personally. That includes holidays in my opinion if you business is a service that people actually rely on daily as an example. Otherwise, it’s almost like wanting the bigger rewards of being a business owner with the same security and routine of an employee.
