Usually when you want to buy an item we are automatically conditioned to think the more expensive item is better than the cheaper one. For example, the expensive one must be better in quality or has a superior warranty. This got me to think as I was looking at some backpacks and there was one that sounded really good. The thing was, it was almost $400. Imagine all the other stuff you can get for $400 and a backpack usually costs way less in general.
But this one apparently had all these great materials to make it lightweight and it sounded like it had all the functionalities that I wanted. As you can tell, it’s like my brain was trying to justify the high price versus doing the logical thing which is to compare the bag quality and features to other offerings in the market.
It’s a habit that’s hard to break. But I think sunglasses are still some of the best examples where for many of them you literally are just paying for the branding and marketing. Almost makes you wonder why no one has invented like an app or something where you can quickly analyze the material and workmanship of products to see if it is truly worth the price tag.
