An avenue that many businesses take to promote themselves is often to help some kind of charitable cause. That should be a good and positive thing overall right? It’s not always as recently it was fascinating to see the public reaction when a person announced that they were offering about 80% off for its service in order to help the cause. The reactions weren’t that they were generous but rather they were taking advantage of the situation to get some business. It’s almost like unless it was for free then the person could care less about the cause.
So assuming they genuinely were interested in the cause and was simply doing things at cost, would you actually ignore the criticism in these cases? Or would you just lose even more money to silence the critics? I just know that as the old saying goes you can’t please everyone and there will always be someone who will take the negative approach. So in that sense you should just do what you think is right.
To quickly address it I would think the best fair answer would be if that company is taking advantage of the situation where it’s easy money per se why aren’t other businesses in the same industry jumping in as well? I suppose in many ways it’s like a politician visiting some place where regardless if it was for a good deed of sort everyone sees it as politically motivated. Does the phrase no good deed goes unpunished hold true whenever you try to do something nice by using your business to accomplish it?
