I was reading how there was a new Dollarama store opening and apparently one of the spiffs that the company throws is that they give away free branded mugs to people who show up. As it turns out, there are quite a few people who would go not to buy something but to just get this free mug.
I always thought company branded merchandise like these wouldn’t be of much value. I guess for a lot of people though this feels like you are owning something very rare and at the same time it’s free. Basically, you feel weird not taking something in such a circumstance. It’s one of those things as consumers we often mock about, but I guess as a business you can’t deny that it works. The advertising you get as a result is probably not too bad when it comes to a return of investment too.
