Going Through The Same Path Or Going A Different Way

Today a lady was telling me how in the summer there is this bear that would frequently visit the lake in search for food. The lake has a trail that leads to a building where many people work and so you can imagine when this bear decides to take a stroll a lot of people don’t dare to get in its way. She was telling me how one person didn’t want to be late and he kept debating if he could just walk past the bear as if it was a regular person. Everyone told him not to of course.

He actually still dared to do it a little bit as he trailed behind the bear ever so slightly. So as soon as the bear goes in a different direction at a turn he can instantly then speed his way to his destination. Eventually that is what happened. It almost sounds like something out of a cartoon. It made you think too why didn’t he just go around the other way? It might have been an extra 10 minute walk since you have to walk around a little longer but it’s a completely different path that will get him to where he wants with all his body parts intact.

That got me to think in general how many times when we want to reach a goal we tend to think there is only one way or that you must take the shortest path even it can potentially mean you will lose everything in the process. I was always told that especially as an entrepreneur there isn’t ever only one true way to do something. The path that one person took yesterday may be too congested for you to get through easily today. Or the road that was easy to cross way back is full of fast moving traffic now.

So spending some time to look at different ways to achieve the same goal should be a necessity I feel. It will help you to adapt to those trials and tribulations too that are bound to show up in the future where more than likely no one but yourself will be able to solve the challenges that are unique for you.
