Going Outside of Your Usual Groups For Feedback

I was thinking the other day as there was a person who felt a product they invented was going to be an absolute winner as everyone they spoke with loved the idea while being extremely supportive. But to his surprise, when he went outside of his usual social circle the response wasn’t as receptive. People seemed to have higher expectations and didn’t really care about the person personally. All they wanted was a product that was say substantially better or cheaper than what was currently available which they didn’t feel his product was.

Of course this caught him by surprise. What that reminded me was how it is very important to get feedback from people at times who don’t have some kind of personal connection with you. Because it’s usually the case where if you know certain people then you will tend to be more supportive. As well, it could be a preference thing as well where the people you normally associate with have similar likes and dislikes to the point where you won’t get a true overview on how your product is overall to a broad audience.

Example, eating vegetarian meals where other vegetarians may love it whereas a meat eater could think otherwise based on preferences.
