Giving Away Rarely Used Items or Selling Them

I was thinking this year that I will need to do a lot of potential equipment upgrade. That would mean I would have no need for the stuff I am replacing. But last year there were some items like a drone I got that were better versions than the one I was using. So the old one is simply there is a backup in case the one I am using breaks as an example. But since then the old drone has just been sitting in the storage. That got me thinking, in cases like this would you tend to sell your items or give it to people who may potentially need or want it where they can’t normally afford one?

My first thought actually was to let people use it for free. Kind of like some library where you can borrow it for a bit and then someone else can have a turn with it. But I can’t imagine how that would work logistically and potential liability issues. In an ideal world I would just give it away to someone in hopes that they will make great use of it and afterwards they will then pass it on to another person in the same fashion.

That’s usually wishful thinking that it would usually work out that way. I don’t know any kind of charity that would want a drone either while using it in a productive manner. In many ways selling something is the middle ground thing to do huh? Ideally I would rather pass it along.
