Giving Away Expensive Courses For Free When No One Is Buying It

This was interesting to see as there was a company that was trying to take advantage of a new technology boom in a specific field where as a result there would most likely be a demand for people wanting to learn how to use a tech. Almost like the computer first coming out and then people wanting to learn to use it. In this case though I thought personally their courses were kind of a rip-off considering it was hundreds of dollars for an e-course where they don’t teach much other than repeating what is on a manual for the most part.

Not surprisingly, most people turned to all the free options such either learning it through use and practice or all the free resources you can find online. Because of that no one was paying for this company’s courses. So to my surprise they recently announced that they were offering the course for free if you buy one of their other products. The odd thing is some of those products don’t even relate to the course materials in general too.

But from what I gather I think the main strategy was PR in the sense of a company is giving away something for free to help people. Afterwards that should theoretically mean people will remember you for other things as well. Although it does make me wonder if people would look into a company’s history in that case such as how they actually tried to charge hundreds of dollars for basic information. I suppose it is smart to at least try and salvage a project like that.
