Today I actually got an alert from a company where they wanted customers to take a quick survey in an effort to help improve its product while figuring out what people want. What surprised me the most was how there was a question that asked if the company was to go subscription based how much would a person like me be willing to pay that I felt was reasonable? In my mind I didn’t like the idea as I currently own the software and can use it for however long I wish without the worry of additional fees.
But many companies are going towards the subscription model route as I would imagine it generates a lot more revenue overall as the barrier to entry is probably cheaper to get more people while at the same time it would get people like myself to continuously pay. Kind of made me wonder if for a lot of software products you should try and purchase the standalone license codes now just in case the company changes its structure in the future.
It won’t last forever as I would imagine like most things you will eventually have to upgrade as time goes on for compatibility issues and all. But it could save you a lot of money.
