Anyone else seen this show on TV? Basically, it is a reality show of a person trying to re-open a business called Save on Meats in an area where poverty is extremely evident. At the same time, they try to hire people who live in the area as well. What I found really interesting is that this business is actually located right here in Vancouver and almost everyone that has lived here is aware of this area and how less fortunate it has developed ever since various businesses closed down. People have even tried to semi clean this area up when we were hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics.
There was one aspect of the business that got me curious where there was one part in an episode where they were saying how they had to throw away thousands of dollars in meat because no one was buying it as it was simply too expensive for the people who lived in the area. That just made me wonder why a business like that can’t just try to clear everything out for extremely cheap to say all the local restaurants just a few days before it expires. Kind of similar to how I see supermarkets sell meats for extremely cheap at night as they would rather sell it then throw it away before closing down for the next day.
I was then thinking how it is kind of a neat business decision to try and document and publicize it as even if the business flops the story that he has developed will probably last one way or another where he can recoup his costs in this venture eventually. Almost like trying to turn a risky venture into a win-win situation. As a joke too I was thinking since this is a TV show right now I don’t really want to go into the store to see how everything is as it is like a spoiler. Will be interesting to see if this simple business can turn around a whole neighborhood.
