Fully Changing To What Is Producing the Best Results or Not

The other day I noticed I got some extra unexpected attention for one of my work. The funny thing is because of the extra publicity it’s kind of amazing to see how this one item literally outperformed hundreds of other stuff I have done combined. It makes you wonder, when you see amazing results like this should you immediately drop everything else and just focus on what seems to be a clear winner?

I guess an analogy to make it trickier would be let’s say you opened up a grocery store where you spent all this time and money to get it to where it’s at. While things have been doing good one day you just decided to sell some expensive jewelry at your store. For one reason or another people just all of a sudden bought a ton of jewelry from you where the profits from that actually outperformed your entire grocery business. So with that said would you just exit the grocery business and sell jewelry exclusively instead?

It’s something I have read recently with creative people where although they have been doing a certain creative style for years they often wonder if they should constantly change directions to what is getting the most immediate support. Hard to say huh? I know one example of a person who was producing a bunch of TV shows where one day he did this one thing that generated hundreds of thousands of viewers and so he immediately focused everything on that topic. For him it worked well.

I also know people who constantly jumped into things in the same way only to end up not really establishing a solid foundation for anything which meant constantly trying to find the current hot thing to stay afloat. Guess at the end of the day it’s just about taking calculated risks as we can’t predict the future just like for any kind of investment.
