Freeganism

financial literacy

Guess I learned a new term today called Freeganism. Essentially, it is people who try to live life off of mostly resources and materials that other people discard that could still be used. I guess an example would be store milk that is one day past its expiration date or a restaurant throwing out food because it wasn’t cooked perfectly.

While it seems very political in many ways, it sure brings up a lot of interesting views when it comes to things that people throw away. For things like expired food I would be inclined to throw it away for health reasons. Although, if you have expired food in the first place I would say that should mean you have to rethink your shopping habits where you are buying more than you need. In turn, it’s a waste of money.

This is definitely a very anti-consumer type of lifestyle which I guess is another way to think about it. As extreme as it may be, financially I suppose you can learn a lot about not wasting things to help you save money.

Although sometimes it is inevitable, we can at least be conscious about how much we can consume then restructure our grocery list to avoid excess.
