This was an interesting topic I thought where I was reading about how people who don’t use a car tend to shop more responsibly for things they actually need. Example, going to the grocery store and buying food to make your main meals as opposed to a ton of junk food. The reason was pretty straight forward where if you don’t have the convenience of a vehicle to get things home you are going to have to carry it. Therefore, it’s another factor when it comes to shopping which stops and makes you think before purchasing.
Funny enough, I never really thought about that but I guess it is true. I have always tried to avoid a car whenever possible for the sake of money and health. Lifestyle wise that means I often do try and research all the places I can purchase things from that are within walking vicinity. It also forces me to research big purchases too because if I need to transfer something large like a TV then obviously that would incur a higher fee.
Of course, this must be a very difficult adjustment if you have pretty much designed your current lifestyle around a vehicle dependency. Although, maybe giving up the car during casual shopping times may not be a bad idea if you are one of those people who can`t seem to stop buying junk that you don`t actually need.
