I thought this was kind of an odd promotion from PayPal. As you can see, they are trying to encourage people to link their bank account so that you can pay directly with that as opposed to a credit card. My assumption is this costs the company less money such as how businesses pay less when customers use a debit card. For $5 though, it doesn’t seem worth it.
I have read so many horror stories of people’s accounts getting deducted without notice with these kinds of arrangements. With a credit card it is so much easier to refute the charge if such a thing happens. As well, is five dollars really worth the risk? I know banks usually offer incentives for you to sign up with them. Those are usually in the range of $50+ or items that would normally retail for over $100.
Then again, I guess you literally could just sign up and unlink the bank account once you get your bonus. Doesn’t seem worth it for $5 though personally.
