Today there was supposed to be major announcements in the computer world as the company NVIDIA was unveiling its new graphics cards. I am someone who is looking to build a new computer and knowing there are going to be major announcements it made me want to hold off for as long as I can. Usually for tech items there is a yearly refresh of new products that perform better for less. But today these announcements seemed a little unreal.
NVIDIA announced its new RTX 3000 Series where as expected they perform better than the previous generation. But the shocking thing was they were claiming these cards were about double the performance of the previous cards and its cheapest one was actually more powerful than its top of the line product. That is unusual. Imagine buying a 4K TV last year for $1000 and this year you can get an 8K one for $500. That’s kind of how shocking this was.
Even in its presentation it was interesting to hear is CEO actually tell people who were using its old tech saying quote “To all my Pascale friends, it’s now safe to upgrade”. So in the graphics department I guess you can say this would make it a semi easier choice to not buy any previous parts while being smart to upgrade if you were holding off. It’s these types of leap in performance you should look for when deciding to upgrade stuff that you technically don’t have to have but will make life a lot more productive.
