Financial Burden of Being Tied To A Monthly Subscription Service

Sunny drone shot

Towards the end of last year I decided I needed to use a more modern day version of the Adobe photo and video suites as I found myself not being able to use so many functions and features to help improve my work. My main reservation is that he past software was standalone meaning you buy it once and you have it for life. The new versions demanded a monthly subscription fee where in this case I would have to pay over $20 each month.

Now the company justifies it by saying you are saving money as you are getting updates without having to buy new software each time. But for myself I usually keep the old versions for a long time as there usually isn’t any need to upgrade. For the most part the change has been good as it increased my workflow and productivity. But as the year is winding down and seeing that message of a renewal it just makes me think how revolving your workflow around these subscriptions when there are other options may not be wise. To make it worst they say the fee has increased.

Like here too I kind of got comfortable with the setup where I am mostly likely going to renew because of it. The other option would have been to start using a new software before that didn’t require a subscription. I could have spent the better part of the year completing various work and using these new tools as well. That’s something to think about even for the common things nowadays like having a business website.

I know a ton of people who haven’t upgraded to a content management system where they can easily edit everything themselves. Instead they have a monthly service subscription of sort to get people to do it for them. Think ahead before tying yourself to a monthly service I suppose versus all the other options that can do the same job.
