I heard an argument today about a person who went on an extended vacation and when he returned home apparently he did not buy his friends or family members anything. This resulted in people saying how cheap he was. As a result, he went to a local store to buy items to give people as a way to make up for it. It was not well received.
When I think about it many people that go on vacation usually do set aside a budget specifically to buy people gifts and souvenirs. It’s kind of interesting where it sort of becomes an expense as oppose to a gift if you are expecting to buy other people items. I personally don’t expect gifts from people that go on vacations as I would rather have them spend money on themselves since they are going to relax.
Although, even I am aware that most people do expect something and so I usually try to find something that the person will like for fun. I definitely don’t put a budget to buy high pricey items such as coming back with a new TV or anything. In my opinion the whole point is to simply share a piece of the culture and your experience with others as oppose to it being like a birthday gift mentality. Don’t need to put a hole in your wallet for that.
