Entitlement Mentality For Self Employment

large business and finance

A few days ago I was in a scenario where a person was complaining how he has worked almost ten hours a day trying to get his business going yet income wise he made less than five figures a year. Therefore, he was complaining how the field/industry he was in was horrible as the amount he made did not match the hour that he put into the business and that it wasn’t really fair

The thing is though from my perspective I saw a lot of people were in the same industry he was and they were doing well. Therefore, it made me believe that he was simply focusing on the wrong things and that just expecting things to come as if it was like a job where you get paid an hourly wage.

Generally speaking, with self employment you don’t know when your next check will come until you find business. It doesn’t matter if you say spent 12 hours a day knocking on everyone’s door or spending hours creating flashy marketing material. If you don’t get any sales then that just means you should try something different.

That is usually the hardest part of starting a business for a lot of people I’d say is getting over the fact that you can’t expect employee-esque pay structures with self employment as the trade off is you get a “you are your own boss” freedom. Getting over that part is necessary too as many times people get discouraged immediately because the money isn’t coming in right away. Like most things in life you have to earn it.
