Today there appeared to be an unfortunate event where in the city of Langley there was a massive shooting of sort which resulted in everyone’s cell phone getting a loud alert to stay away from the area. Normally I only see these messages for missing children. In this case the message was clear of course to stay away from the area if possible.
That was the interesting thing where the phone kept giving out these alerts to the point where a lot of people actually tuned out by closing their phones and went on business as usual. What would your response be? For example, imagine you owned a supermarket where maybe the scene of the crime was about 1km away. For this type of incident would you immediately shutdown or assume it’s technically kind of far away where the loss in business would be too much?
I think realistically most people would actually stay open unless they were say literally on the same block as the incident. In many ways that is a bad situation to be in too where if you are running a business one day could be the difference between say making a profit versus going into debt as the motivation to just risk it and stay open. All these unexpected factors you can encounter but do we ever truly prepare for it?
