There was a ton of news today that a lot of Dr. Seuss books are being pulled from shelves do to how a lot of the content is deemed as racist nowadays. For example, one popular book called “And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street” has a picture of a Chinese individual eating with chopsticks along with stereotypical characteristics such as small eyes. So with that the company made a decision to stop selling it.
This is raising so much debate it seems as some see nothing wrong with it whereas others see these types of things as how racism and stereotypes start at a young age. I suppose for this controversial topic as well the company felt it’s better to make changes now. Kind of makes you wonder if it’s wiser overall to take initiative like here to make changes right away versus say educating people that these books were written in a certain period where that attitude and perception was rampant.
But I guess that is the reality of doing business nowadays since overall people are lot more concerned with appropriate cultural representation.
