While I was expecting to have Internet access during my trip I wasn’t expecting anything too crazy as I would assume the speeds would be slow for the location. Overall it wasn’t too bad though as Internet sites loaded pretty decently. But when it came to uploading work that was a whole different story. It was so slow that a mere 200MB file would take almost 5 hours to upload.
Usually during these types of situations where I need to upload some data I set it to upload and do other work while it completes as I find that is a productive way to do it. But since it was so slow and using a laptop isn’t as ideal to run multiple intensive applications at once I actually re-adjusted my workflow a little bit.
When it came to uploading large data I actually waited until I was going to sleep where I left the laptop on to upload in hopes that by the time wakeup it would be done. In many ways it’s the same thing in terms of tie management when you think about it. You just have less flexibility if things go wrong such as waking up with still an hour left to upload and you need your laptop to go to your place of work. Fortunately for me it worked out.
