Does Not Spending A Lot On A Wedding Make You Pathetic

This is apparently an old article, but I stumbled upon this piece written on the site called Elitedaily where it talked about a couple that got married in a Mcdonald’s restaurant. As you would expect, it is extremely cheaper than doing it the more traditional lavish way. What got my attention was the tone of the article as the writer Ashley Fern wrote this line stating “As if the world wasn’t pathetic enough, you now can now get married at McDonald’s”.

In terms of cost though, I was thinking what the heck is wrong if a couple actually likes the venue and doesn’t want to go into debt to impress others? I have often heard stories of people simply getting married with nothing more than a wedding band in a garden somewhere with some family as an example. Why should how much people spend on things like their wedding day matter if the couple themselves are happy with it?

Just off the top of my head, I can imagine a couple getting married in a small venue like a café as maybe it is symbolic to them in some ways such as how they met. It would seem kind of strange to label the scenario as pathetic as an example because of materialistic surroundings. If anything, this kind of shows me why one would get into so much debt as there is so much social stigma and pressure to spend money on things as a way to get approval.

We often get taught as a child about things like peer pressure to not do things such as taking drugs, but maybe spending money and buying materialistic items simply to impress others should be a curriculum too.
