With a hack of the data recently on the site GiveSendGo, information about donors who donated to the trucker convoy has been spreading. As you can imagine, if you are on the side that disagrees with the protest you will be angry at everyone who donated. As evident, there were some wealthy donors and people who people think are related to specific companies. In this one story I was reading there is a company called David’s Tea and one of the original co-founder’s wife apparently donated to the cause. As a result, everyone that disagrees with the cause threatened to boycott them.
From what I read too, apparently the founder has had no operational input with the company since 2016. You can see in their social media page they were copying and pasting the same message to a lot of people who were accusing them of supporting the protest whereas they were trying to explain as a company they haven’t donated to the cause.
That’s kind of the example I suppose on how much say politics can create so much grief for a business where it seems like it’s better to stay out of it and just focus in providing your product or service.
