Costing More For Being Healthy

Today I was looking at a hotel business and not too surprisingly there were various rates depending on the type of room you wanted. The most surprising thing about this? Apparently a room that is designated as a smoking one costs $30 less than a room that is designated as a non smoking area. At first I thought maybe that was because they put the designated smoking rooms in undesirable locations. From the looks of it though, the only real difference was that it was on a different floor level. The only other thing I could think of is supply and demand as the smoking rooms were probably not being booked much.

Makes you wonder whether or not a non smoker would actually book the designated smoking room for the sake of save $30 a night. I wouldn’t doubt it at all actually if that happens frequently. I would think it would cost more to maintain those types of rooms too from a business point of view where it would be more expensive to book it. Guess this is one thing I would need to research about to understand the logic behind it.
