While supermarkets and retail stores are adapting to social distancing guidelines by having items such as installing plexiglass on all cashier terminals it seems like Costco is going to go a step further. Based on a recent announcement they are requiring all customers to wear a face mask upon entering and shopping at the store. On the site it states the following about its new policy:
Face Mask Requirements:
To protect our members and employees, effective May 4, all Costco members and guests must wear a mask or face covering that covers the mouth and nose at all times while at Costco. This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 2 or to individuals who are unable to wear a mask or face covering due to a medical condition.
The use of a mask or face covering should not be seen as a substitute for social distancing. Please continue to observe rules regarding appropriate distancing while on Costco premises. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
This is interesting to see that a business is demanding customers to do this. It makes you wonder where if you are forcing people to wear things like a face mask would that mean eventually business can be run as normal without physical distancing as an example? For Costco though one thing they are known for is how you can get cheap things like a hotdog which they sell as a dine-in service. So if you are forced to wear masks I guess the dine-in experience would not be possible still.
