It was pretty much all over the news today where allegedly celebrities such as Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were accused of bribing people to help get their children into prestige schools. Apparently in the application for these universities people were paid money to do things such as helping the students cheat on their SAT’s or even flat out lie about one’s athletic abilities. While the process is still going on so we don’t know for sure I wouldn’t be surprised if it is true. Some figures that were floating around is that one person spent almost $500,000 in bribes.
Many times even in business you wonder why certain people seem to be getting all the opportunities and luck as you see people who work just as hard not being able to get a break as they say. It’s not too farfetched to say that many times people have the backing of someone extremely wealthy or influential that helps to give them that competitive advantage. Or like in this case to get an unfair advantage over others.
Funny enough though many times an employer or hiring manager would say they don’t care too much about a piece of paper such as which school you went to as opposed to what you can actually do when it comes to certain jobs. Would stories like this make you value the person’s school less and more on what they can actually do in reality? I wonder in this case too would you be doing the child disservice in life by not making them earn such an entry into a school?
