So within next week everyone here in Canada will now have the ability to keep their old cell phone numbers for people who wish to transfer to a different service provider. I know the people in the US have had this for awhile and I’m not sure why it took so long for it to happen here.
For myself, I did have a three year contract with Telus Mobility before but that has since expired and having to change my number was the big reason that I didn’t really go through in seriously shopping around for a better deal. For myself, I use it a lot for business and it is printed on my cards which make it a hassle to change. So for me this is definitely great as that will no longer be a factor. Hopefully this will create some new plans for consumers as well since this kind of forces companies to be even more competitive.
Maybe I’ll browse around to see some new phones as well to see if anything piques my interest.
