I bumped into a friend today who I haven’t spoken to in a long time and he was telling me that he recently started his own business with a few friends. He was expressing how it was great as they can make fun of each other all day and just assign one another the most bizarre position titles if they feel like it. He was thinking how that was a sign that they will do great since they are so comfortable working together.
I was then thinking how on paper that would usually sound like a disaster business wise as there doesn’t seem to be the order and structure that you would expect to run a successful business. On the other hand, being able to have fun and enjoying what you do can often lead to success too. In that sense I guess you can’t say that one can’t run a business in a casual way like that.
Even the most simplistic things often require one to run it with a non casual attitude I’d say. Example, people that just travel and documenting their lifestyle as a means of making a living still usually do a lot of serious back-end work to raise funds and managing one’s finances. I personally think running a business casually is more for when you are experimenting on an idea or way of running your business.
