Buying Broken Products To Fix

It’s Christmas Eve and even though I finished all my shopping I decided to see if there were any good deals just in case I saw something that would be a good last minute stocking stuffer. At the toy store there was this jackhammer toy where it seemed like it had moving parts when activated to act as if it was the real thing. Based on the label though the product is defective where it won’t stop once you start it. So you have to take out say the batteries to stop it and it will start when the power is on I suppose.

It was discounted to $15. Would you ever buy a product like this with that type of a defect? That got me thinking as there are a lot of people who actually look for broken products in categories where they feel they are competent enough to fix it. For example, there could be a computer that is broken where simply swapping out a $50 part will make It function again. If it was a $1000 item discounted to $500 then that could be a bargain for some.

People even create businesses this way where they try and buy broken items to fix and resell at a huge profit margin. I suppose you could use it as practice well to see how skilled and savvy you really are.
