You have to be thinking what the company Burger Kind was thinking when they sent out these messages. To celebrate International Women’s Day 2021 it seems like they attempted to try and get more women involved within their industry as usually the theme in these events are inclusion and how certain fields are dominated by men. Well their statement was an odd one as they wrote “Women Belong in The Kitchen” as a way to show their support for more females within their industry.
People definitely took that the wrong way as telling a women to be in the kitchen career wise is the stereotype that a women face such as how in the past a women would be expected to just stay at home, take care of the kids and cook meals. Even more surprising is that people were blasting them for the message and the company was actually defending it.
This is like a no win PR situation huh? I would be inclined to say if they didn’t use those exact words maybe people would view it differently as I think the main intent was like how most celebrated chefs you see in media and shows are males as an example where it would make sense in that regards to try and include more women. But with the nature of the situation those were just some very poor choice of words huh? Although some may argue that they did it on purpose knowing it would generate a huge reaction.
