Building A Team Based On Prejudice Perception

I couldn’t believe I heard this today. There was a person who was apparently looking for a hard working individual to manage a business in the future but was unable to really find anyone to take the lead. Someone then blurted out that they should find a local and the person’s comment was that they would never hire people that come from the country they were actually in as they are just lazy compared to other people around the world.

Talk about being prejudice huh? No wonder why they day you usually can’t ask certain questions in interviews as there are people who would use it against you. It make me wonder how many great people who probably pass by each day if you have personal biases like this. There are just so many factors that determine how skillful or hard working someone is. People could grow up in the same area but in a different environment as an example. It could be the reverse too where the people you think should be good will end up bad based on stereotypes.

Is it ever a good idea to hire or partner up with people simply based on person bias like these? You would think being prejudice like this should be a no-no immediately. But I guess with examples like these they still exist.
