Today I got a phone call and according to my caller ID it was from my phone provider and so I thought it might have been something important. However, it turned out that it was simply a telemarketer from the company trying to up-sell me on some other services that they offer. Funny thing is I decided to just listen to the pitch out of politeness even though I knew that I wasn’t going to buy anything.
During this time I was also talking to a friend and she was telling me how she knew people that would simply be rude to them as a way to discourage them from trying to do it again. I guess for myself in some ways I recognize that they are just trying to do a job and so in that sense I don’t see the harm in just listening.
Though one thing was weird as I I told him that I lived in Vancouver and he said “That is in Alberta right?” So that pretty much killed any credibility that he was specifically trying to give me the best offer. At most if I didn’t want to be nice I would just hang up. No need to be nasty I think as long as they don’t continually call you up.
