I was reading today how Russia is going to stop offering gas to countries they deem hostile towards them where the only way they will sell natural gas supplies to them is if they open Russian bank accounts and pay in its rouble currency. If you think about it, this can negate the sanctions that were placed upon them as they can take advantage on how many are dependent on them for gas resources while demanding a price that suits them.
Now the lesson would be for one to be less dependent on others if possible. Especially when it comes to integral resources where your business can fundamentally be held hostage over it. But is that realistic? For example, for all the websites I have managed virtually everyone uses a third party supplier as it isn’t realistic for everyone to setup and manage their own hosting services. Like there, there is not much you can do if your service provider goes under unexpectedly as an example.
The only rationale thing to do I would imagine is to make sure you have a contingency plan. Like with the web host, I imagine you should be doing it anyways such as keeping local backup copies. So if you need to move elsewhere or temporarily host it yourself then at least you would have that option. I can’t imagine anyone trying to do everything themselves while remaining financially viable as an example.
